The Young Environmental Sustainability (YES) Actors Project is a North-South environmental education project designed to promote sustainable environmental education amongst secondary school students in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.
The project will utilize combined theoretical and hands-on method in empowering young students to explore environmental issues, solve problems, and take action to improve the environment.
Objectives:
- Educate young people about the importance of nature and the environment.
- Increase awareness about environmental issues among young students.
- Impart ecological knowledge, develop attitude, skills, and a sense of responsibility that enables young students to take necessary actions towards preserving nature and all of its components.
- Empower young people for sustainable development.
- Promote environmentally conscious behaviour towards nature.
- Encourage participation in global efforts towards tackling and solving issues related to the environment.
- Identify possible academic and professional pathways in the Environmental sector for young students.
- Facilitate an interpersonal relationship between the mentors and the mentees during the mentoring process.
Approach:
As part of this project, we will establish environmental clubs in numerous secondary schools across Ibadan, Oyo State. Students who are members of the established environmental clubs will go through a combination of interactive workshops, visits to recycling centres, practical activities, and community engagement.
Green Mind International Academy and main partner, Aleos Research Education and Development Hub will create and distribute manuals to guide the study of environmental education in these clubs. At the end of a session, students will participate in an intensive environmental camping experience that will last for 3 days.
Conclusion:
The YES Actors Project aims to inspire and empower young students to become proactive agents of environmental change in their communities. Through education, practical experience, and collaborative efforts, participants will emerge as passionate advocates for environmental sustainability, driving positive impact for generations to come.
To implement this project, Green Mind International Academy partners with Aleos Research Education and Development Hub, Germany and the Norddeutsche Stiftung fur Umwelt und Entwicklung Deutschland. Also supporting this project is the International Sustainability Academy, Hamburg Germany.
